Course Description

This course will examine the biblical, theological, and historical mandate, principles, and methods for effective evangelism. Students will examine the interaction between Gospel and culture as it relates to the task of evangelism in the contemporary scene. Looking at the biblical and historical sources, students will explore the diverse strategies for effective evangelism with a special emphasis placed on the role of the local church in living out its mission. This course will also study and critique the current thinking and practices of outreach and evangelism in local churches. Primary focus will be placed on the North American context and the unique responses for engaging this culture with the gospel.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Articulate a biblical and theological rationale for the continual practice of evangelism
  • Diagnose your current cultural context to evangelise more effectively
  • Become more conscious of your historical, traditional, and denominational identity regarding how and why evangelism is practised.
  • Construct and defend your personal ethic of evangelism
  • Understand how the sovereignty of God necessitates the practise of evangelism
  • Analyze and constructively critique various issues in contemporary evangelistic practice in North America and around the globe
