Course Description

This course lays a biblical, theological, and formational foundation for further study in all Carey master’s degree programs. We want to ground all our study on a knowledge of the Scriptures; to know triune God whom we trust, love and serve; to understand God’s heart and His work of redemption; to appreciate our identity as followers of Christ, and to find our place in God’s story and the mission of God’s Kingdom.

Learning Outcomes

This module provides you with the opportunity to think, articulate, and act on the calling, identity and mission as God’s people in the framework of the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. At the end of the course, you will:

  • Describe how God reveals himself through the drama of the biblical story (theological reflection)
  • Know and articulate to others the triune God whom we believe, love, and serve (theological reflection and spiritual formation)
  • Formulate a theology of the identity and mission of the people of God informed by God’s work of redemption in the world through Jesus Christ (missional appreciation)
  • Cultivate a deeper desire for God as you reflect on who God is, what God is doing, and your participation in God’s redemption of creation. (personal and spiritual formation, calling)
  • Practice interdisciplinary integration and reflective skills in your Christian life and service
