It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Gerald Staley (Gerry) on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Gerry served on the Carey Board of Administration during a major expansion of the Carey Campus that has seen over 600 Christian undergraduates live in community during their studies at UBC. We are very grateful for and blessed by his contributions and service to Carey.
Hello Graduates of 2021! It has been an interesting time for you, your families, your communities, and the entire world. It has required some changes in our lives, sometimes for the best, other times as a necessity, and sometimes regrettably things have had to take a step back. Here at Carey, we’re quite aware of this as we have had to make adjustments to our graduation ceremonies for the last two years. We’ve tried pushing dates back, explored options that then fell through, and even contemplated ways we could ship materials around the world (but it seems the Ever given and Vancouver’s own postal service woes were denying us this basic service).
Carey Theological College would like to congratulate Alice Ho (MPM, 2019) on her upcoming ordination. She would be ordained at Burnaby Alliance Church, BC, Canada, on the 16th of January 2022, at 3pm. All are welcomed to witness her ordination online or in person.
Early congratulations to our alumni, Rev. Paul Shen (MPM, 2020) and Rev. Angel Tong (MDiv, 2020) on their upcoming ordination! They will be ordained into the priesthood at 3pm this Saturday (December 4th, 2021), at the Church of the Good Shepherd under the Diocese Anglican Network in Canada. They will be serving within the ministries of Asian and Multicultural Ministries in Canada (AMMiC). Everyone is invited to attend the service in person or online.
“We are excited to welcome Jimmy Chan as Assistant Professor of Theology,” announced Dr. Colin Godwin, President of Carey Theological College. “During the interview process, we were impressed with Jimmy’s teaching ability, scholarship and his commitment to participate in Carey’s mission together, as we prepare men and women as pastors, missionaries and Christian leaders in Canada and around the world.”
It is with a heavy heart that we share David Holten passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2020, due to cancer. We are grateful for and blessed by his contributions as a friend of Carey, Board member and Treasurer. He was instrumental in helping Carey’s management with its strategic turnaround. Wherever David served, he would often express his love for God’s people and for Scripture. He has left a legacy of Christian devotion in the hearts of many.
On September 14th, 2020 VCEMF invited Carey to participate in their monthly meeting – entitled “Equipping God’s Faithful Leaders”. During this meeting, Carey shares what they have learned throughout the years of being an online seminary and what they have planned for the future. Carey and VCEMF have agreed to release the meeting to benefit all those who were not able to attend that morning.
All guests arriving from outside of Canada will be required to provide the hotel their Quarantine Exemptions if their stay occurs within the Government of Canada’s travel restrictions. Please visit the CBSA website for travel restriction details.
It brings us great sorrow to share that Dr. Ellis André passed away on August 26, 2020, due to brain cancer. Dr. Andre was loved and highly respected by many people and will be missed.
Congratulations to the 64 Carey graduates this year, one of our largest graduating classes ever. Although we cannot gather for a physical ceremony this year, Carey’s board of administration, faculty and staff want to celebrate their success and remember God’s faithfulness.
