RESIDENCE HEALTH & SAFETY

In response to the ongoing provincial BC's Restart Plan, we will modify the measures, rules and provisions in compliance with the Plan for the year 2021/2022. Please visit this page closer to Fall 2021 for the relevant health and safety practices implemented at our residence.

Health and safety remains our top priority. We will continue to provide the services and amenities that align with guidance from health authorities. Please bear in mind that we may have to adjust our services and amenities on an ongoing basis, often on short notice, to align with public health authorities. Changes will be reflected on, but not limited to, this webpage, signage around the building, notices to students via email and verbal instruction from Carey staff. For more information on our recent enhanced measures in our facilities, please see tab “COVID-19 Residence Facilities Measures”.

For contractually agreed rules in place for our residents, please see tab “Health & Safety Rules for Residents” and an excerpt added to all residents’ contract in response to the COVID-19 provincial emergency. We thank everyone for their diligent, responsible efforts in keeping our environment safe, healthy and supportive.

GENERAL

  1. Deep and more frequent cleaning of high touch points in residence facilities.
  2. Plexiglass installed between the service counters and staff.
  3. Additional health and safety signage throughout the building reminding residents, staff and visitors to adhere to our protocols. Signage includes, but not limited to: maximum occupancy, designated entrances/exit, designated waiting line spots, hand washing, 2m physical distancing, mask wearing.
  4. Recommendation of wearing face masks in all common areas other than designated dining area.
  5. Recommendation of maintaining physical distancing, especially when face mask wearing is not possible. As Vancouver Coastal Health reminds us, they “are recommending physical distancing as one of the ways to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. At this time, there are no public health orders enforcing physical distancing.”
  6. Health and safety rules in effect. Each resident signs a compulsory resident contract that includes their responsibility and participation in keeping our residence safe. Failure to follow through may result in residence standard action and/or termination of the residence contract and eviction from the residence.
