CAREY exists to empower faithful Christian leaders for every generation, every culture and every community. Fees are kept competitive in order to make theological education as accessible as possible. This is made possible through the generous support of churches from the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada, foundations, and interested friends.

Course registration and tuition is due on the first day of class. If you are unable to meet this deadline, please contact the Registrar's Office. Payment plans can be negotiated as needed.

SCHOLARSHIPS, FINANCIAL AID & PAYMENT PLAN

Carey Theological College is committed to making theological education and ministry training as accessible as possible to men and women who are called by God to serve His Church. We understand that seminary study represents a significant commitment—in time and energy as well as financial resources. We are pleased that we are able to offer a variety of financial aid (FA) resources to help reduce the expense associated with study. 


CHURCH GROUP DISCOUNT

Award amount: $345 of credit towards tuition, one-time

*Tuition-only; textbooks, travel costs, fees and other expenses are not included.

Description: The Church Group Discount offers $345 of credit towards tuition when a church group of three or more people sign up for the same course at the same time.

Eligibility criteria

  • Admission to Carey Theological College as an Occassional Student, or full admission to any of Carey's academic programs
  • This discount is not applicable to base 8 courses (OT I&II, NT I&II, History I&II, and Theology I&II)  
  • Receive $345 in tuition credits if more than three people register for the same course together
  • All group members have to take the course for credit; the discount does not apply to auditing students

  • This discount cannot be combined with other scholarships and/or bursaries 

Limitations

  • The bursary covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.

PRESIDENT'S SCHOLARSHIP

Award amount:  100% of tuition, full program

*Tuition-only; textbooks, travel costs, fees and other expenses are not included.

Description: The President's Scholarship is a need- and merit-based competitive scholarship, and fully covers tuition for the entire degree.

Eligibility criteria

  • New and active students
  • Full admission to the MA, MDiv, Adv. Dip, or DMin program
  • Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in qualifying prior degree 
  • Active ministry involvement 
  • Strong academic English proficiency: students who graduate from a non-English qualifying prior degree program will be required to take the TOEFL or equivalent English assessment 
  • Students who graduated from a non-recognized or non-accredited qualifying institution may be required to take the GRE or a graduate-level study assessment 

Other requirements

  • Continuous study– masters: 1 course per term or 12 credits per year minimum; doctoral: 2 courses (6 credits) per year minimum
  • Maintain 3.5 Masters and 3.7 Doctoral GPA at Carey

Limitations

  • The Scholarship covers the following maximum number of years and program credits; 6 years and 72 credits in the MDiv, 4 years and 48 credits in the MA programs, 3 years and 18 credits in the Adv. Dip., and 2 years and 12 credits in the DMin.
  • The Scholarship covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.

Award amount: $2000 towards tuition over 4 consecutive terms

Description: The Carey Student Scholarship is a need- and merit-based competitive scholarship available to selected students in any masters level or doctoral level degree.

Eligibility criteria

  • Full admission to the MA, MDiv, Adv. Dip, or DMin program
  • Registered to take at least one course per semester for fall, winter, spring, and summer or a minimum of 12 credits for the upcoming academic year (minimum 6 credits for Adv. Dip. and DMin students)

Other requirements

  • Scholarships are assessed and awarded each term, however award recipients may only reapply after the registered courses covered by the scholarship are completed.
  • Maintain 3.3 Masters and 3.5 Doctoral GPA at Carey

Limitations

  • The scholarship covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.
  • Financial aid awards and other promotional programs cannot be stacked
  • If courses are dropped and the student no longer meets the minimum credit requirements before 4 consecutive terms are completed, the student is no longer eligible to receive financial aid again until 4 consecutive terms have passed or the student pays the full tuition rate for the remaining minimum courses within the original 4 consecutive terms.

Award amount: Up to $1000 of credit towards tuition, consecutive for 4 terms

Description: The Carey Student Bursary is a needs based bursary available to selected students in any masters level or doctoral level degree.

Eligibility criteria

  • Full admission to the MA, MDiv, Adv. Dip, or DMin program
  • Financial and related need  
  • Receive $1000 in tuition credits if you are registered to take at least three courses (9 credits) over four consecutive terms (minimum 6 credits for Adv. Dip. and DMin students) , or
  • Receive $500 in tuition credits if you are registered to take at least two courses (6 credits) over four consecutive terms (minimum 6 credits for Adv. Dip. and DMin students)  to receive $500 of tuition credit

Other requirements

  • Scholarships are assessed and awarded each term, however award recipients may only reapply after the registered courses covered by the scholarship are completed.
  • Maintain 2.7 Masters and 3.0 Doctoral GPA at Carey

Limitations

  • The bursary covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.
  • Financial aid awards and other promotional programs cannot be stacked

CBWC BURSARY

Award amount: Up to $1000 of credit towards tuition (while eligible)

*Tuition-only; textbooks, travel costs, fees and other expenses are not included.

Description: The CBWC Bursary is a tuition subsidy for CBWC denominational ministry workers, assists with tuition for masters-level programs and/or ministry-supporting coursework.

Eligibility criteria

  • Full admission to the MA, MDiv, Adv. Dip, or DMin program, or taking relevant ministry-supporting coursework (eg: the Baptist Identity course)
  • Affirmed by CBWC denominational list as a licensed worker currently employed in pastoral ministry in a CBWC church, or in a CBWC-related parachurch position
  • Receive $1000 in tuition credits if you are registered to take at least two courses (6 credits) within four consecutive terms, or
  • Receive $500 in tuition credits if you are registered to take at least one course (3 credits) within four consecutive terms

Other requirements

  • Recipients must maintain their licensing and employment status within the CBWC. 
  • Scholarships are assessed and awarded each term, however award recipients may only reapply after the registered courses covered by the scholarship are completed.
  • Maintain 2.7 Masters and 3.0 Doctoral GPA at Carey

Limitations

  • The bursary covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.

  • Receive $345 in tuition credits if you are registered to take two packaged courses (6 credits)

Other requirements

  • Maintain 2.7 Masters and 3.0 Doctoral GPA at Carey 

Limitations

  • The bursary covers tuition only for Carey Theological College courses. Students are responsible for all other fees and expenses related to technology, textbooks, research resources, travel, and program-related courses.
  • Financial aid awards and other promotional programs cannot be stacked
  • The courses within the Selected Packaged Course Bursary must be taken consecutively over two semesters in order to receive the Bursary
  • The courses eligible for the Selected Package Courses Bursary are:
    • Hebrews Package: BIBL 591 Hebrew I and BIBL 592 Hebrew II
    • Greek Package: BIBL 593 Greek I and BIBL 594 Greek II
  • Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and institutional integrity throughout their program in Carey. Failure to do so will result in the student no longer receiving the President's Scholarship.

Other aid & awards


CANADIAN STUDENT LOANS

Canadian students can apply for student loans through the province where they have been in residence for a minimum of 12 consecutive months, excluding time spent in full-time studies. In order to be eligible for a Canadian student loan, students must enrol in a minimum of 9 credit hours per term over the loan period. Students may contact the appropriate provincial authority to obtain Student Loan Applications.


TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS

Teaching Assistantships are available to selected students. T.A.’s, usually second or third year students, assist professors in various areas such as preparing bibliographies, cataloguing books, filing, monitoring classes, photocopying. Normally, the stipend is applied directly to the student's tuition fees, if 12 credit hours of study are being completed at the time.


CANADIAN BAPTIST OF WESTERN CANADA

Participating in the training of future ministers and the ongoing development of current ministers is an important to the collective work of the denomination. Students with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada are advised that three types of student aid funds are available. Contact the Office of the Registrar for detailed information.
